Devonport the most car friendly city:
On Friday morning, the results of Australia's first definitive research project which rates the 'car friendliness' of every major city and regional town will be announced and Devonport is set to take the chequered flag. The inaugural Virgin Car Insurance Car Friendliest City Search judged every capital and major regional city in terms of the cost, convenience and facilities it delivers motorists. The research rated the nation's top 38 cities and towns based on range of criteria including the cost of tolls, parking fines, parking meters, commercial carparks, rego, insurance, petrol as well as the number of municipal car parking spaces and car vehicle thefts. The results show all number of fascinating facts including : • Australia's cheapest expired parking meter fine (Devonport and Burnie at $15) • best value toll roads • cheapest city to buy petrol (Perth) • where best to register and insure your car (Devonport)
• “Run For Phoebe” – Friday 26th March. Tim Blair a parent of students at Nixon Street Primary School will run 50kms from UTAS in Burnie to Nixon Street Primary School in Devonport. This fund raising event is for the benefit of Phoebe a student at Nixon Street primary school who has recently been diagnosed and treated for Ovarian Dysgerminom (a form of ovarian cancer). • The Coastal Motorcross Club proudly presents the first round of the Tasmanian Motorcross Championships to be held at Blackwood Park in Penguin this Saturday and Sunday. See the return of Ross Beaton set to take on local star Matt Philips hot from winning streak in New Zealand last weekend. With over 140 riders competing aged from 4 to 44 awesome action is guaranteed. Fantastic canteen and bar facilities available. Racing starts from 9:00am every day and entry is only $5 per adult.
• The Lions Club of Port Sorell Needs your help! The club will hold a Gangster and Molls evening to fundraise for its relay for life team. Camp Banksia will be transformed on Saturday for an evening of big band and soul music, presented by the Grand Central Big Band and Nine lives Soul review. Tickets cost just $20 each. • The relay for Life has become a renowned event uniting young and old to raise funds for cancer research. On March 20 and 21 people from all around the North West will come together at Penguin to raise money for the cancer council. Held at the Dial Sporting Complex in Penguin, teams of 10 – 15 members will pound the pavement in the name of cancer prevention.
